Azure and Marketplace prerequisites
Before deploying the managed application, confirm that the target Azure subscription is ready for the Marketplace purchase and deployment.
Marketplace access
Confirm that:
- Microsoft Marketplace purchases are enabled for the billing account and subscription;
- the user completing the purchase has permission to purchase Marketplace products;
- if your organization uses Azure Private Marketplace, the offer is allowed;
- if you are purchasing through a private offer, the offer has been accepted before deployment.
For public offers and private plans, Microsoft requires the purchasing user to have Owner or Contributor access to the target Azure subscription.
Private offers have a separate acceptance step. The role required to accept a private offer depends on your organization's Microsoft billing agreement.
See:
Azure deployment permissions
The user deploying the application must be able to create an Azure Managed Application and its deployment resources in the target subscription.
Microsoft provides the built-in Managed Application Contributor Role, which includes permissions to:
- create and manage
Microsoft.Solutions/applications; - register the
Microsoft.Solutionsresource provider; - create and manage resource groups;
- create and manage Azure Resource Manager deployments.
A user with broader subscription permissions, such as Owner or Contributor, can also satisfy the Marketplace purchase requirements.
The exact permissions required can depend on the resources and role assignments created by the managed application.
If the deployment needs to create Azure role assignments, the deploying identity must also have permission to create those assignments at the required scope.
See Azure built-in roles.
Subscription readiness
Confirm that:
- the target Azure subscription and Microsoft Entra tenant are correct;
- the selected Azure region is approved by your organization;
- sufficient Azure quota is available for the selected capacity;
- Azure Policy does not block resources required by the managed application;
- organization naming and tagging requirements are understood.
The deployment process registers or creates required resources where supported. If Azure reports a missing resource provider, quota limit, or policy restriction, resolve that Azure prerequisite before retrying the deployment.
Region and plan availability
Marketplace plans and capacity options can vary by Azure region.
Confirm that the required workload profile and capacity are available in the region selected in the Marketplace deployment form.
The live Azure Marketplace offer is authoritative for current plan and region availability.
Ready to continue
You are ready to continue when:
- Marketplace purchasing is enabled;
- the purchasing/deploying user has the required Azure permissions;
- the target subscription and region are approved;
- Azure quota and policy allow the deployment.
Return to the planning overview, or continue to choose capacity and topology.
