Elastic license management

Opsflw Connect operates the Elastic Stack under a commercial subscription to unlock advanced security and observability features. Proper license management keeps the cluster compliant and avoids service interruptions.

License model

  • The deployment uses the Elastic Enterprise license tier to access machine learning jobs, Alerting, and Spaces.
  • Usage is measured in resource-metric units (RMUs) across data nodes, ingest capacity, and machine learning workloads.
  • License files are stored securely in the Opsflw secrets manager and rotated before expiration.

Renewal process

  1. Track license expiration dates in the central renewal calendar at least 90 days out.
  2. Request updated license files from Elastic with projected growth estimates.
  3. Validate the new license in staging using elastic-license install --scope staging and monitor for warnings.
  4. Schedule production installation during a maintenance window and confirm the cluster reports the renewed expiration.

Document the renewal in the change log and attach the confirmation email for audit readiness.

Compliance monitoring

  • Enable license usage alerts in Kibana to notify the platform team when consumption approaches 80% of the limit.
  • Review monthly RMU reports to ensure tenant workloads align with contracted capacity.
  • Coordinate with finance and procurement during quarterly business reviews to adjust entitlements proactively.

Rely on the Opsflw Connect profiles to enforce consistent access controls after each license update.
